Africa Report Launch: Unlocking growth in the era of farmer finance

30 May 2016

Four years after the release of the seminal 2012 study Catalyzing Smallholder Agricultural Financethe Initiative for Smallholder Finance and the Rural and Agricultural Finance Learning Lab have released a follow-up report, Inflection Point: Unlocking growth in the era of farmer finance

This landmark report suggests that annual growth in the sector needs to double (to 14%) in order to meet half of smallholder finance needs by 2025.  In Africa, the annual need for smallholder finance is $33B, of which only 20% is addressed by formal or informal sources.

Inflection Point offers a new sophisticated understanding of the sector and proposes that while current efforts to expand financial inclusion are not sufficient to meet smallholder demand, concerted efforts around customer centricity, progressive partnerships, and smart subsidy have the potential to change the sector’s growth trajectory to best serve the world’s smallholder farmers.

Join us for a cocktail reception where we will share findings from our research, discuss sector opportunities and risks we see over the next 3-5 years, and offer opportunities to network with one another.
